EWG’s GRAPHIC DESIGN INTERN will work in a fast-paced environment, assisting the design team and create creative design solutions on a daily basis to help the design team who works with all the other teams at EWG including Government Affairs, Healthy Living, Science, Digital, Fundraising and Communications. The past interns have worked on Shopper’s Guide to Pesticides in Produce, Healthy Living: Home Guide, Tap Water Database, Healthy Living App, Sunscreen Guide, all of which EWG is globally recognized for and millions of people use.

You will learn how a project develops from an idea to a finished product and get first-hand experience of the inner workings of a successful not-for-profit organization.

  • Work with the members of the design team and digital team to create social posts, e-mail banners and other web graphics on a daily basis.
  • Ask questions and listen actively in order to understand the needs and goals of EWG’s teams for particular design projects.
  • Develop designs for print products, including reports, brochures, consumer guides, marketing materials and event collateral.
  • Other duties as designed
  • Current Undergraduate students with college/work experience in the design field.
  • Familiarity with the Adobe Suite mainly Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign.
  • Excellent organizational, communications and multi-tasking skills, with attention to detail.
  • Ability to independently pursue and complete design tasks.
  • Ability to pace work to meet deadlines and to stay flexible with day-to-day changes in priorities.

FAQs about the Graphic Design Internship:

Length of Internship:  8-10 weeks

Start/End Dates of Internships:  This is flexible passed on the intern’s school start/end dates.  Preferred start date is in late May/early June and Preferred end date is end of late August/early September.

Internship Hour Commitments:  Interns should be able to commit to sixteen (16) to twenty-four (24) hours per week.

Days/Hours of internships:  The intern can work between 9 AM – 6 PM on Monday-Friday.  There are NO weekend hours available to work. 

Internship Pay:  $15 per hour

Location:  Washington, DC office.  Tele-Work/Remote working is NOT possible for the internship.
