Sustainable Food and Environmental Advocate Joins EWG Board

Washington, D.C. – Anna Getty, a well-known author and advocate for sustainable food and children’s health, has joined the board of directors of Environmental Working Group, the nation’s leading environmental health and consumer advocacy organization.

“I’ve known Anna for years and have been inspired by what she’s accomplished on behalf of millions of new moms, their babies and the environment around them,” said EWG President and Co-founder Ken Cook. “The number of organizations, issues and initiatives Anna has helped develop and lead, not to mention her own work around healthy food and children’s health, is remarkable. Anna’s talents and experience make her the perfect fit for EWG’s board.”

Getty is the founder of Pregnancy Awareness Month, an educational and empowerment campaign now in its sixth year of serving mothers-to-be and new moms nationwide. She is also an avid blogger and foodie and has written two green living lifestyle books, “Anna Getty's Easy Green Organic” and “I'm Dreaming of a Green Christmas.”

“For years, EWG has been an invaluable resource in both my professional and personal life,” said Getty.  “It is an incredible honor for me to join the board and be able to serve this incredible organization.”

Getty served on the board of the national nonprofit Healthy Child Healthy World for six years and has also worked closely with Teens Turning Green, The Organic Center and Global Green. She is an advisory team member at SHFT.com, Slow Money, and The PBS Food Documentary series.

In her spare time, Getty can be found in the cockpit of a Cesna 172, cooking for friends, hiking and knitting. She, her husband and their two children split their time between Los Angeles and their Italian organic olive oil farm in Tuscany.

Getty will join 15 other dynamic board members who oversee EWG’s activities and promote its mission. Since 1993, EWG has served as a watchdog for consumers to help them make healthier choices and enjoy a cleaner environment. The organization does cutting-edge research and uses the power of information to influence government policies and the market in order to conserve land and water, produce and use energy responsibly and ensure that food and consumer products are free of harmful chemicals.
