WASHINGTON – On January 20, the Environmental Protection Agency released a plan for regulating wastewater pollution, including discharges of the “forever chemicals” known as PFAS.
The Effluent Guidelines Program Plan 15 falls far short of the EPA’s vow in its 2021 PFAS Strategic Roadmap to “get upstream” of the PFAS problem and does not reflect the urgent need to tackle this pollution.

“I’m very disappointed that the EPA has delayed action to address industrial releases of the toxic forever chemicals known as PFAS.
The EPA has understood the risks posed by PFAS for decades, and communities have waited for decades for the EPA to turn off the tap of ongoing PFAS pollution.
No one should have to live downstream or downwind of a PFAS polluter, and the EPA should be accelerating – not delaying – government actions that limit industrial releases.
The companies that have been polluting our communities for decades should not be given even more time to pollute.”
