Dems Demand Scott Pruitt Testify Under Oath at House Hearing

WASHINGTON – Top democrats from the House Energy and Commerce Committee have called for Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Scott Pruitt to testify under oath during a congressional hearing he is expected to attend next week.

Democratic leaders from the House Energy and Commerce Committee sent letters today to Chairman Greg Walden, D-Ore., and Rep. John Shimkus, R-Ill., who chairs the panel’s environment subcommittee, urging that Pruitt be placed under oath before he is scheduled to testify next week. They also called for the hearing to be expanded to include the subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations. The lawmakers wrote:

Mr. Pruitt’s extraordinary lack of responsiveness to Congressional inquiries, legal violations resulting from EPA’s failure to notify Congress about his expenditures, and serious questions about the veracity of his statements regarding a number of these ethics issues make this request necessary.

“It’s about time Congress insisted Scott Pruitt raise his hand and testify under oath,” EWG President Ken Cook said. “So far he’s just given them the finger.”
